Did you know that your body was created to birth your baby? The female body was created to accomplish extraordinary tasks during labor and birth. It is oh too common this day and age to just go to the hospital and have a baby due to what we see on TV. TV shows give a bad reputation for how birth actual can occur. Did you know that a woman’s water breaking before labor begins only occurs 4% of the time. It is very rare, yet most TV programs depict water breaks, women starts screaming and out comes a baby moments later. This is such false data.
Why is this false data spreading through our electronics regularly? Lack of education! Education is the key to achieving your ideal birth. Did you know that part of a birth Doula’s job is to help educate their birthing couple? The more educated the couple is about the birthing process, the better decisions they can make for your body, your birth and your baby. There is a whole wealth of evidence based data on pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum.
Here are a few things you can educate yourself on for pregnancy, birth and postpartum:
What nutrition should I feed my body during pregnancy?
How much water should I be drinking each day?
Is it ok to have coffee or tea during pregnancy?
How can chiropractic care help me during pregnancy and prepare my body for birth?
Should I continue to exercise during my pregnancy?
What vitamins should I take during pregnancy?
How much sleep should I be getting each day?
Is it ok to have sex during pregnancy, will it hurt my baby?
Do I feel comfortable with my health care provider delivering my baby?
Do I feel comfortable in the environment where I will be birthing?
Should I hire a birth Doula?
Can a birth Doula help me achieve the birth I would like to have?
What if I don’t want to be induced?
How much longer can I go past my due date and not be induced?
What are my chances of having a caesarean?
Should we take a childbirth education class?
Are pain medications harmful to my baby?
I am having a “big baby”, is that bad?
Is a water birth safe?
I want to try natural, but what if I can’t do it?
If I have to be induced, what methods of induction do you perform?
Do I have to have continuous fetal monitoring?
What exactly is an epidural? Are there any side effects?
When do I arrive at the hospital or birth center to have my baby?
Can I have delayed cord clamping?
Can I have skin to skin with my baby for the first undisturbed hour?
How do I care for my baby after birth?
When will my milk come in?
How do I breastfeed my baby?
How often do I feed my baby?
What do I do when my baby doesn’t stop crying?
Do I circumcise my baby boy?
How am I going to eat and clean the house with a new born?
Should I hire a postpartum Doula?
How can chiropractic care benefit my baby?
These are just a few questions to start with. As you do your research you will come up with more questions to ask your healthcare provider of birth Doula. The important part is to ask the questions that fit for your ideal birth plan. What is true for you, is true for you. Educate yourself so when your health care provider suggests something to you, you then can make an educated decision. When you are in labor there is discomfort, pain, strong emotions and exhaustion present. It is super hard to make an educated decision at this point in time, especially if you are not sure what decision to make because prior research was not done.
The more educated you are, the more relaxed you can be about your labor and birth. This leads to having more confidence and greater success of achieving your ultimate birth experience!
My phone and email is open to you. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. I can provide you with the data you need to educate yourself for your ideal birth plan. Get yourself educated for your body, your birth, your baby!!
My most common response at a postpartum visit from my clients is “I would never have had my baby without you!” Hire a birth Doula!! I am accepting birthing couples May, September, October and November 2016.
