Perineum Battle Cries

As a birth Doula, I have noticed that each and every birthing mother handles her labor/birth in her own and unique way.  Some are calm, determined and just breathe; others have great control with wonderful voice expression and some really find their rhythm and rock their baby out.  No matter what is said or not said, as her baby’s head presses on her perineum, the most successful thing she can do is stay in her zone, listen to her body and accept encouragement from her birth team so they can help ease her baby into this world the safest and most effective way possible.

With other birth Doulas help in the area, I have noted some perineum battle cries from natural birthing mothers as their baby’s head presses on their perineum:

“I’m trying”

“I can do this”

“I want my baby on my chest.”

“Is he out yet?”

“I’m scared”

“I’m scared to push.”

“Please don’t rip”

“I can’t get him out”

“Why is this taking so long?! I just want it out!”

“YESSS!!!”

“It burns!”

“Ring of fire, thank goodness, he’s right there!”

“He’s coming out!”

“Get it out!”

”Can I push? I have to push!”

“I need to push, I need to push, I need to push!”

“I need this f$&@ing baby out of me.”

“OMG OMG OMG!”

“Come on baby!”

“OHHH, the pressure!”

“I can’t do this!”

“I need drugs, please give me something!”

“There’s just no way I can do this.”

Whether the birthing mother is voicing, breathing, rocking or groaning her baby out earth side; support her, encourage her, admire her, she is in her prime time zone just before she meets her next true love.  Moments later, as her baby lies on her chest in her arms, tears gliding down her face, she utters “I DID IT!”

Yes, momma you DID!
